Help

The questions new scouts ask most, with short answers. Each tool also has its own Help button with the full detail.

How do I get started?

On the homepage, pick what you want to do, or open The tools and choose the Match tool or a player position. On the Setup tab, fill in the short Required to start box: for the Match tool that’s the report type, both team names and both kit colours; for a player tool it’s the player’s name, club and shirt number. Press Start to go to the Watch tab, then start the clock when the match kicks off. When the match is over, go to the Report tab to write your report.

What do I need? Can I use my phone?

Use two screens: play the match recording on one (a TV, a monitor or another device) and run Scout Aid Pro on a separate laptop or tablet. Don’t use a phone for Scout Aid Pro. On an iPad, tapping is the reliable option: iPads work, but voice input can stop or miss words there, even in Chrome. There’s nothing to install, because the tools run in your web browser. If you want to talk instead of tap, use Google Chrome, because voice input can stop or miss words in other browsers.

Should I talk or tap?

Both work, and you can mix them: everything goes into the same list of moments. Talking is the main way: on the Watch tab, press Start voice input, mute the match sound and say what you see. Tapping a pad (or pressing the letter shown on it) is quicker for things you count, like shots and chances. Some pads then ask a quick question about what happened: answer it if you can, or skip it.

How should I talk so it records properly?

Say the kit colour and shirt number, like “white 5”, not just a name. Say what happened and how it ended, like “won it” or “lost it”: on the player tools, a moment is only counted when you say how it ended. Say “again” when something happens again, and say the minute on big moments, like “43rd minute” for a goal. If you get something wrong, say “scratch that” to remove the last thing you said.

Voice isn’t working. What can I do?

Open the tool in Google Chrome: other browsers may miss words or not hear you at all, and the tool shows a warning when you’re not in Chrome. If it says the mic is blocked, allow microphone access for the page in your browser and try again. Check the language next to the mic matches how you speak (English NZ, UK, Australia or US). If voice still won’t work, tap the pads instead, or record yourself in another app (like Voice Memos) and paste the words into the Paste a transcript box on the Watch tab.

Which report should I choose?

Pick the one that matches your question:

  • Game Plan: how to beat a team you’re about to play.
  • Match Review: an honest look at your own team’s match.
  • Team Profile: a profile of a team you’re keeping track of.
  • Half-time Report: at half-time, what’s working and the calls for the second half.
  • Player Report: whether one player is good enough, and why. Use the player tool for their position.
  • Data Preview: a first read on a team from a Wyscout or Hudl data file, before you watch them.

The first four all come from the Match tool: pick the report type on the Setup or Report tab.

How do I get my report, and can I change it?

Go to the Report tab, enter your licence key and press Generate. The report arrives as a draft, and you can click any line to change it. When it’s right, press Confirm to mark it as checked, then use Print / PDF or Copy as text to share it. The AI is included in your plan, so there’s nothing else to set up.

Is my work saved? Can I move it to another computer?

Yes. The tool saves after every action, so you can close the tab and come back. Your work stays in the browser you used, on that device, and clearing your browsing data deletes it. To keep a copy or move it, press Save recording to file on the Setup tab, then use Load a saved recording on the other device. On the Club & Academy plan you can also press Save to club library so the rest of your staff can open it.

How do I start a new match without losing the last one?

Each tool holds one recording at a time. First press Save recording to file on the Setup tab to keep a copy. Then press Clear everything to start fresh: this can’t be undone, so save first. You can bring the old match back any time with Load a saved recording.

Where’s my licence key, and what does the free trial include?

When you start a free trial on the Start page, we email you a licence key. It looks like SAP-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX, and one key works in every tool. The trial gives you 2 full reports, with no card and no expiry date, and you only need the key to generate a report: recording, voice, saving and printing all work without one. Can’t find your key? Search your email for it, or email hello@scoutaidpro.com.
